So this post arrived unaccompanied with photos. Don’t fret! We have many more to come! The challenge is balancing free time with photo selection!

For this first Father’s Day, Dad got to sleep in until a whopping 8:30 am, and woke up to an extra-cheesy (MMMM…) delicious omelet as well to a smiling Sheryl and Dave. Davey produced his first gift tie for daddy — with the help of Mom, it’s a very wearable and fashionable model! Along with an extra-large mug plastered with Davey’s own adorable mug, and a new loofa-style washcloth and good-smelly soaps, the day was a gift that Joe hadn’t really considered truly real until he experienced it for himself. The role of fatherhood, I find, is best left to be experienced, enjoyed, relished, one day at a time. That way, you can be secure in the sum the days gone by, rather than worrying about the future for our son — school, dating, driving, rules, college, ahhhhhhh!

Sheryl comes up with some great epiphanies (most likely originating from our visions we experience from lack of sleep!) Most recently, she said to me, and I’m paraphrasing, “I just realized that we won’t be around for all of Davey’s life.” Upon further contemplation, we also realized that statement was a double-edged sword, because not only is it sad to think that we won’t be with him during his entire lifetime in our current form, but that we wouldn’t want it the other way around (namely, him leaving before us!)

And so we simply enjoy all of him — his smiles with his tears, his newfound full-bellied laughs with his ever-increasing poopy diapers.

Coming soon: First week of day care and first solid foods!
